Leo Melamed among the recipients of the 2016 Order of Lincoln Award

On the 207th birthday of Abraham Lincoln, the Governor of the State of Illinois, Bruce Rauner, named Leo Melamed among the recipients of the 2016 Order of Lincoln Award, the state's highest honor for professional achievement and public service. to wit:

Leo Melamed is globally recognized as the founder of financial futures.  As chairman of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME Group), he created the International Monetary Market (IMM), became its first and only chairman, led the CME in the introduction of a diverse number of financial instruments, Foreign Currency in 1972, Treasury Bills in 1976, Eurodollars in 1981, and Stock Index futures in 1982.  Mr. Melamed spearheaded the introduction of the world's first futures electronic trading system Globex® and became its founding chairman.  He led the effort to modernize futures in commodities and made Chicago the hub of futures trading.
